This recipe comes from one of you, dear readers! A few months ago, I exchanged emails with a newsletter reader, LeLa Ann York, and she shared a recipe that she created for friends and family. November is a great month, isn't it?
She shared the pictures and recipe, but I'm trying this for Thanksgiving. If any of you have a recipe you'd like to share--I'd love for you to email me at ChristinaSinisi@gmail.com. Did I mention I love trying new recipes?
Ingredients:
Double crust pastry for 9-inch pie
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
5 oz. red cinnamon candies (red hots)
5 cups (5 medium) peeled sliced apples
3 tablespoons flour
Directions:
In saucepan, combine sugar, water, and cinnamon candies. Simmer until candies are dissolved. Add apples and flour and cook until mixture is thickened.
Pour into pastry-lined pie pan. Roll out remaining dough, cut into strips 3/4 inch wide and criss-cross over filling to form lattice top.
Trim and seal ends, fold bottom crust over to cover. Flute edge.
Bake at 375 degrees for 40-45 minutes, until golden brown and bubbly.
NOTE: Prepared apple pie filling or canned apples may be used. Combine with red cinnamon candies and cook over medium heat until candies are dissolved. Pour into pastry-lined crust and finish as above.
Thank you, LeLa, for being a part of this community and sharing your recipe! Blessings, Christina
